Zimdancehall musician Nyasha Reginald Mano, popularly known as Ras Pompy, has been sentenced to six months behind bars after authorities found banned cough mixtures in his vehicle.
The 27-year-old was apprehended on July 16, 2025, following a high-speed chase with police through Harare’s central business district.
His black Honda Fit had been flagged as part of an investigation into vehicles allegedly transporting drugs. When detectives attempted to stop him, he sped off, prompting a pursuit that ended when he crashed.
A search of the car uncovered a supply of restricted cough syrups, commonly misused as recreational drugs.
Ras Pompy was charged under the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act and later convicted. Magistrates imposed a six-month prison term, adding to Zimbabwe’s growing list of drug-related convictions as authorities intensify their crackdown on substance abuse.
Once celebrated as a teenage prodigy in Zimdancehall, Ras Pompy’s career now faces a major setback, echoing the struggles of other public figures caught up in the drug crisis.
