During a court session involving two Harare men facing charges of providing false information to a public official, their legal representatives claimed that the complainant, Elizabeth Parerenyatwa, is engaged in fraudulent activities.
These allegations emerged during cross-examination, where the defense argued that Parerenyatwa had allegedly forged a Power of Attorney document, which she has so far failed to present in court — a move the lawyers suggest is an attempt to hide her misconduct.
“The documents you refer to as granting you Power of Attorney are forgeries. The accused maintain that you are both a fraudster and a criminal,” one of the defense attorneys asserted.
Further scrutiny revealed that none of the children of the late Brian James Rhodes were present at the edict meeting where Parerenyatwa claims she was appointed as executor dative of his estate.
Parerenyatwa conceded that she was not in Harare when the supposed representations were made to the Registrar of Companies. The defense challenged her claim, stating she lacks any proof that the accused ever made such representations.
Additionally, the court heard that Elizabeth Rhodes, the widow of the deceased, never included any shares or properties in Karoi in her inventory of her husband’s estate. The defense presented this inventory as evidence, which supports the claim that Karoi Properties were not part of the deceased’s declared assets.
“You forced your involvement with the Rhodes estate. That is why the family — particularly his children — want you removed from handling any of his affairs,” the lawyers argued.
They also pointed out that the appointment of Parerenyatwa as executor dative happened at a meeting that excluded Rhodes’ biological children. It was further clarified that the accused did not personally submit documents to the Registrar of Companies — the submissions were allegedly made by Verasity, a third-party company.
