Murape Murape Defends Referee Dirwai After FC Platinum vs Dynamos Controversy

Former Dynamos midfielder Murape Murape has come out in strong defense of referee Quedisani Dirwai following the controversial abandonment of the FC Platinum vs Dynamos match over the weekend.

The match ended prematurely after Dynamos players walked off the pitch in protest of a penalty decision awarded to FC Platinum. The decision—and the walk-off—has sparked heated debate across the local football scene.

In his post-match remarks, Murape commended Dirwai’s officiating, saying the referee made the correct call.

“The referee was spot on,” Murape said. “He made the right decision to award the penalty. The Dynamos defender completely missed the ball and clearly fouled the striker. The contact was there—it was a clear foul.”

Murape also addressed another key moment in the match, where two players went to ground in a tussle. “They both fouled each other, but the referee wisely used his discretion—likely considering the first incident. That kind of judgment is what we need more of in our local game,” he said.

Referencing another match between Scotland FC and Chicken Inn, where Dirwai awarded a penalty for a handball, Murape again backed the referee’s decision, describing it as “undeniably correct.”

“Kudos to Quedisani Dirwai for a job well done,” Murape added. “Unfortunately, some fans and analysts are letting their bias against clubs like Scotland and FC Platinum cloud their judgment.”

Murape, who spent much of his career with Dynamos, was critical of the team’s decision to leave the pitch.

“Walking off is never the solution,” he said. “It’s not in the spirit of the game. Disputes with officiating should be handled through proper channels—not by abandoning matches. It disrespects the sport and sets a dangerous precedent.”

The Premier Soccer League is expected to investigate the incident, with possible disciplinary action against Dynamos for their conduct.

As reactions continue to pour in, Murape’s remarks underscore a broader call for professionalism, rule adherence, and respect for match officials within Zimbabwean football.
