A self-proclaimed prophet from Kwekwe and eight accomplices were arrested after administering a potentially toxic concoction to a victim during a fatal exorcism ritual.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspects after noting that the victim had died, they moved the body to his house from the shrine.
“Police arrested a self -proclaimed prophet, Charity Mafirowanda (46) and eight congregants, Talent Khumalo (42), Bongani Paraffin (33), Admire Makota (23), Ronald Mandiedza (24), Margaret Zireba (21), Lyton Ndlovu (19), Anorld Mashiri (23) and Pauline Banda (33) in connection with a case of murder in which Micky Chuma (54) died.
“The suspects allegedly carried the body from the shrine to the victim’s residence where they placed it on the bed before covering it with blankets,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
He said the gangs intention was to conceal the crime.
