Bloomfield Addresses Speculation Around Nakamba’s Future
Luton Town head coach Matt Bloomfield has clarified that midfielder Marvelous Nakamba’s appearance for the club’s U21 team on Wednesday was part of his ongoing recovery process as he aims to regain full match fitness.
Nakamba was not involved in the club’s pre-season activities, having trained separately, and he also missed last Friday’s season opener against AFC Wimbledon.
His absence sparked rumors of a potential transfer, particularly in the wake of Luton’s drop from the Championship.
However, following Nakamba’s 45-minute outing in the U21s’ friendly against Leyton Orient, Bloomfield confirmed that the 30-year-old is still being eased back into regular training after sustaining a knee injury in November 2023.
“Marv is on the path back to full fitness,” Bloomfield told reporters. “It was good to see him get 45 minutes with the U21s — that’s a step in the right direction.”
Bloomfield noted that Nakamba’s training load is being carefully managed due to the lingering effects of a knee issue from a few years ago. “He can’t train every day like some of the other players, so we’ve had to approach his return cautiously,” the coach explained.
As for Nakamba’s future at the club, Bloomfield acknowledged that outside interest has affected his pre-season. “There’s been quite a bit of speculation and attention from other clubs, which has contributed to his slower return.”
