The Zimbabwe Republic Police has rolled out body-worn cameras for officers in its newly rebranded National Highway Patrol unit, a major stride toward modernizing traffic law enforcement.
Speaking at the launch, Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba said the devices — to be used by both drivers and assistants — will promote transparency, boost accountability, and improve evidence collection as part of the expanded electronic traffic management system.
The introduction of body cameras comes alongside the deployment of five high-powered Ford Ranger vehicles fitted with advanced monitoring equipment.
The upgraded fleet is expected to enhance police presence and mobility on busy highways throughout the festive period and beyond.
Commissioner-General Mutamba noted that the enhanced patrol units will focus on curbing reckless and dangerous driving, with the aim of reducing accidents and protecting travelers.
The public has also been urged to report unsafe behaviour on the roads and to seek help from the newly deployed highway patrol teams when needed.
