ZIFA Suspends Referee Quesdani Dirwai Over Poor Officiating

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has confirmed the suspension of Premier Soccer League (PSL) referee Quesdani Dirwai for six matchdays, citing substandard officiating during a recent top-flight encounter.

In a statement released this week, ZIFA said the disciplinary action follows Dirwai’s performance during the league fixture between FC Platinum and Dynamos, held at Mandava Stadium on 22 June 2025.

The referee is currently barred from officiating in PSL matches from Matchday 18 to Matchday 23.

According to the association, the decision was made after a comprehensive review of the match, which included an assessment of the Match Commissioner’s report.

The findings concluded that Dirwai’s conduct and decision-making during the game fell significantly short of the professional standards expected at the Premier League level.

“In line with Paragraph 21 of the ZIFA Referees Code of Conduct, the six-match-day suspension serves both as a corrective and disciplinary measure,” ZIFA said.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fair play and maintaining integrity within the domestic game, stating that it holds match officials to the highest standards of professionalism.

Dirwai’s suspension marks the latest move by ZIFA in a broader effort to improve officiating standards across Zimbabwean football amid increasing scrutiny from clubs, players, and supporters over controversial refereeing decisions.

No  comment was made by Dirwai or the PSL regarding the specific incidents that prompted the disciplinary action.
