South African Police Launch Manhunt for Zimbabwean Fugitive Following Murder of SAPS Officers
South African authorities have initiated a nationwide manhunt for Jabulani Thabang Moyo, a Zimbabwean national accused of killing two detectives from the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Roodepoort earlier this week.
Moyo is considered a high-priority fugitive after allegedly executing the officers in cold blood during a prisoner transport operation on August 8. Following the fatal attack, he fled the scene, having also stolen the unmarked police vehicle used for the transport. The vehicle was later found abandoned, though the suspect remains at large.
A reward of R150,000 has been offered for any credible information that could lead to Moyo’s capture. Law enforcement has urged members of the public to come forward with any relevant tips and has emphasized that Moyo is “armed and extremely dangerous.”
The Hawks, a specialized unit within the SAPS, are leading the investigation. Civilians are strongly advised not to approach the suspect but to alert police through the following channels:

According to police, Moyo had just attended a court appearance and was being transported back when he reportedly overpowered the officers, shot them at close range, and fled in their vehicle. Forensic teams are still combing through the evidence while detectives follow multiple leads.
Police spokesperson Captain Xolani Fihla commented, “We are committing all available resources to ensure this individual is brought to justice. The murder of police officers is not just a criminal act—it’s an attack on the entire justice system.”
This tragic event has also reignited concerns about prisoner transportation procedures and security protocols within SAPS, prompting internal reviews.
