A Harare court has postponed its decision on a bid by former Foreign Affairs Minister, Walter Mzembi, to challenge his placement on remand.
The ruling, which was initially scheduled for Wednesday, will now be delivered on Friday.
The delay follows the absence of Magistrate Donald Ndirowei, who is presiding over the case.
Mzembi recently sought relief from the court after his bail was revoked, a move triggered by his failure to appear before the courts over a period of seven years. He was arrested last month upon his return to Zimbabwe.
In court last week, Mzembi’s lawyer, Killian Mandiki, indicated plans to submit written arguments before the prosecution files its response.
Mzembi had earlier applied for the cancellation of warrants issued for his arrest, arguing that his absence was not intentional. He told the court that he had been dealing with a serious medical condition that required frequent hospitalisation and only returned to Zimbabwe after his health had significantly improved.
However, a Harare magistrate dismissed that explanation when revoking his bail, stating that his condition had not been severe enough to prevent court attendance.
The magistrate also highlighted that Mzembi had actively participated in politics while abroad, serving as campaign manager for exiled former minister Saviour Kasukuwere, who is based in South Africa.
