Mabvuku Pair in Court for Fatal Assault on Suspected Thief
Komani police apprehended a 48-year-old bus driver in the Komani CBD on Sunday, February 23, while he was traveling to Zimbabwe. Authorities discovered 26 boxes of abalone worth R2 million in his possession.
Police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela reported that the Queenstown K9 unit received intelligence about a bus transporting tower batteries from East London to Zimbabwe.
Acting on this information, officers intercepted and searched the vehicle in the Komani CBD.
“During the search, officers recovered five solar batteries valued at R25,000, six solar panels worth R12,000, four tower batteries estimated at R160,000, inverters valued at R200,000, and 10 boxes of medication,” Mgolodela stated.
The driver was taken into custody on multiple charges, including possession of abalone, suspected stolen property, violations of the Medicines Act 101 of 1965 and the Marine Living Resources Act 18 of 1998, as well as damage to essential infrastructure.
He is set to appear before the Komani Magistrate’s Court today, February 25.
