Socialite Malloti has broken her silence following a viral video showing her speeding away from City Parking officials and damaging a car clamp in the process.
Her vehicle was clamped in Harare’s central business district for allegedly violating parking regulations. However, instead of settling the fine or discussing the matter with authorities, she chose to drive off—landing her on the Harare Traffic Enforcement’s wanted list.
In a video shared on her official Facebook page, Malloti defended her actions, claiming she was unfairly targeted. She stated that City Parking officials typically finish work at 4 PM, yet her car was clamped after that time. Additionally, she insisted that she had a valid parking ticket when the incident occurred.
“I had just arrived and was escorting a friend who wanted to buy food at Food Box. It was exactly 4 PM, and we assumed the municipal officers had already left for the day. In fact, we had previously paid for a valid parking ticket,” she explained.
Malloti suggested that she was singled out due to her celebrity status. She recounted attempting to reason with the parking officer, only to be met with hostility.
“The officer approached me and said, ‘You think you deserve special treatment because you’re a celebrity.’ I responded, ‘But how can you clamp my car at 4 PM? Where am I supposed to pay?’ They kept insisting that I wanted preferential treatment before clamping my car right away,” she recalled.
Malloti defended her decision to drive off, arguing that she ultimately saved money by doing so.
“I was protecting myself because how can you clamp my car after 4 PM and then demand a hefty release fee? If a car is impounded, they charge around $300. Instead, I’d rather pay $70 to repair my car than hand over my money to those officials,” she reasoned.
