HARARE – In a startling escalation of the public feud between flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his estranged partner Sonja Madzikanda, new allegations of surveillance and betrayal have emerged. Madzikanda has claimed that Chivayo suborned her trusted domestic staff to monitor her movements and private conversations following the collapse of their relationship.
The allegations, which have sent shockwaves through social media circles, suggest a sophisticated level of stalking that Madzikanda says has disrupted both her life and the lives of their children.
Speaking on the ordeal, Madzikanda detailed a specific incident involving a former nanny whom she described as someone she “loved with her whole heart.” The betrayal reportedly came to light during a recent business trip to China.
“I had no idea she was being paid to spy on me,” Madzikanda stated. “It broke my heart.”
She recounted a chilling moment in China when a phone call intended for her children inadvertently revealed the surveillance. According to Madzikanda, the call was disconnected and, upon calling back, she overheard the nanny gossiping about her for nearly 20 minutes with security personnel.
“I couldn’t put my finger on how information was being leaked, but it now makes sense,” she added.
The drama reportedly extended to her return to Zimbabwe. Madzikanda alleged that Chivayo had orchestrated a plan to have her arrested upon her arrival at the airport. She claimed a “gut feeling” led her to mislead Chivayo’s associates about her arrival date, effectively evading a potential confrontation.
“As soon as I arrived, they were calling to check if I was there, but I was elsewhere,” she said.
The allegations raise serious questions about the nature of the couple’s post-separation relationship. Despite Chivayo’s previous public assertions that the two were never legally married, Madzikanda questioned why he would go to such lengths to monitor her.
“If you say you were never married, why put yourself through all of that? Why am I being stalked? Why are your kids’ lives always disrupted because you are paying someone to stalk me?” she questioned.
These new claims come on the heels of a series of high-profile legal clashes between the two. Just last month, Chivayo withdrew criminal charges against Madzikanda and her mother, Tabitha Madzikanda, following a bitter dispute involving allegations of cellphone theft and child custody issues.
While Chivayo has previously characterized his actions as being in the best interest of his children, Madzikanda’s latest revelations paint a picture of a man obsessed with control and surveillance.
