Chipinge Machete Gang Sentenced to Six Years in Prison

Four Chipinge men who pounced at a victim wielding machetes and an axe will rue the day they committed the violent crime as they will spend the next six years imprisonment.

Emmanuel Chishingwi (28), God knows Mubango (25), Claus Mupitaka (26) and Gift Manasa (22) all from Gaza township appeared before Chipinge Magistrates’ Court for an armed robbery committed in the early hours of 30 June 2025.

NPA said at 0300 hours, the offenders targeted the victim aged 43 who is a self-employed man at Christina Dairy, in Chipinge.

The qautert managed to gain entry at his residence.

“They threatened the victim with machetes and an axe and forced him into his bedroom while demanding valuables.

“The gang stole property worth USD 650, including cash USD 5, a 25-inch television, car keys (Toyota Probox), two mobile phones, clothes, batteries, an amplifier, electric scissors and the victims passport.

“Fearing detection by security guards, the gang, hid the television set in nearby bushes, intending to retrieve it later under the cover of darkness,” said NPA.

A police report was made and investigations led to the arrest of the gang.

NPA said each offender was sentenced to nine years imprisonment of which two years was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

“One year suspended on condition they each pay USD 143 in restitution. Effective sentence is six years imprisonment.
