Chegutu Taxi Driver Found Dead in Suspected Murder

A taxi driver from Chegutu, identified as Alex Sinoia, was discovered dead on Monday in an open field in the Kaguvi section of Pfupajena.

The case has since triggered a full-scale murder investigation.

Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, confirmed that Sinoia’s body showed evidence of a brutal assault.

“When police arrived at the scene, they observed several wounds, including a deep cut on the right lower leg, two gashes on the left leg, a stab wound to the left buttock, a gash on the left thigh, and a wound on the left ear,” Kohwera detailed.

Sinoia’s Honda Fit, bearing registration number AEP 5524, was located approximately 181 metres from where his body was found. The car had been heavily vandalized—windows smashed, windscreen broken, and all four tyres slashed.

Officers also found blood stains and drag marks roughly 90 metres from the vehicle. Torn clothing believed to belong to the deceased was strewn across the area, indicating he may have been attacked before succumbing to his injuries.

The body was taken to Chegutu District Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the precise cause of death. Authorities have called on the public to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation.
