Beitbridge Man Caught Growing 210 Marijuana Plants

A 26-year-old man from Beitbridge has been arrested for allegedly cultivating a large quantity of marijuana at his homestead.

According to national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Awelani Ndlovu was taken into custody on June 5, 2025, after detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs and Narcotics Unit followed up on a tip-off.

“Ndlovu was apprehended at Driehoek Village in Makhado after officers discovered 210 cannabis plants being grown illegally,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

In a separate incident, police in Featherstone intercepted a man in possession of 12.5 kilograms of marijuana during a routine patrol.

The arrest took place on June 4, 2025, at the 103-kilometre mark along the Harare-Masvingo highway. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Brian Bhobho, was reportedly transporting the drugs in a vehicle.

Police say investigations into both cases are ongoing as they continue efforts to combat illegal drug cultivation and trafficking.
