A young beauty influencer was fatally shot during a live broadcast on social media, sending shockwaves across the internet and reigniting concerns about violence in Mexico.
Valeria Marquez, a 23-year-old TikTok personality and aesthetician, was livestreaming from inside her beauty salon, Blossom the Beauty Lounge, in Jalisco when an assailant opened fire.
According to footage from the stream, Marquez was seen smiling moments before looking out the window and being struck by bullets—once in the chest and twice in the head.
After briefly reacting to a chest wound, she collapsed. A woman later appeared in the video, seemingly ending the broadcast.
Authorities report that the attacker entered the salon and quickly fled on a motorcycle after the shooting.
Emergency services responded swiftly, but Marquez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Local police have cordoned off the area and launched a homicide investigation. A manhunt for the perpetrator is ongoing.
Valeria was known for her beauty and lifestyle content, boasting over 110,000 followers on TikTok. An autopsy is scheduled, according to media outlet Infobae.
The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office released a statement confirming the incident, saying that initial investigations indicate Marquez was shot multiple times by an unidentified man who entered her establishment.
Her death highlights the continued issue of violence against women in Mexico, a country battling deep-rooted gender-based violence, often exacerbated by cultural machismo.
This tragedy comes shortly after another shocking event: Yesenia Lara Gutierrez, a mayoral candidate from the Morena party, was killed along with three supporters, including her daughter, during a campaign rally in Veracruz.
The assassination, also caught on livestream, showed a moment of community engagement turning into chaos as gunfire erupted.
Authorities continue to investigate both incidents, which have sparked outrage and renewed calls for justice and safety reforms across the nation.
