Dr. Solomon Guramatunhu’s residence in Harare was transformed into a cultural arena on Saturday as Sofar Harare staged its 21st concert, themed The Natural Hair Edition. The event fused music, poetry, and dance in celebration of authenticity, African identity, and natural beauty.

Women adorned in afros, curls, locs, and coils filled the intimate venue, embodying the event’s message of pride in natural hair.

The lineup featured a diverse mix of performers. SkyBlue & Act opened the night with a fusion of vocals and guitar-driven melodies, while poet Tadana Nakai delivered verses that resonated deeply with the audience.

CXXVII & Ngonie combined spoken word and dance in a striking performance, before Mokoomba’s lead guitarist, Trust Samende, showcased his trademark artistry. Afro-fusion artist Mary Anibal closed the showcase with a moving blend of Zimbabwean and Mozambican sounds.

In his welcoming address, host Dr. Guramatunhu urged guests to embrace natural hair and reject artificial beauty standards, a message that set the tone for the evening.

The concert was supported by brands aligned with natural beauty and wellness, including Optinova Eye Care Zimbabwe, Au Naturale Natural Hair Salon, BirdsNest, Mashonga Roots, African Crown, and AfroKink.

Sofar Harare’s 21st edition was part of the global Sofar Sounds series, which also held concerts in Bangalore, Bali, Dehradun, Bombay, and Plymouth.

Organisers said the event highlighted not only emerging talent but also the role of art in affirming cultural identity.
