Two police officers, Constables Mupandira and Chirengendure, have been arrested and charged with corruption-related offenses after a video surfaced showing them accepting bribes from suspects in Harare’s central business district.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests, stating that the officers are facing both disciplinary and criminal charges. The Commissioner-General of Police has vowed to ensure that the law takes its course without fear or favor.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenge of corruption within Zimbabwe’s police force. However, social media has played a crucial role in exposing such incidents, with citizens secretly filming officers taking bribes.

This is not an isolated incident, as similar cases have been reported in the past. In November, two traffic police officers were detained after a viral video showed them accepting bribes from public transport vehicles.
