ZANU PF spokesperson Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa on Wednesday addressed a press conference at the ruling party’s headquarters, where he outlined what he described as major political and economic milestones achieved under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Mutsvangwa said the party had consolidated internal unity, crediting President Mnangagwa with maintaining cohesion within ZANU PF and positioning it for long-term political stability.
He said President Mnangagwa remained unchallenged within the party, adding that deliberations had been made for him to continue in leadership until 2030. According to Mutsvangwa, the party now considers opposition groups politically weakened and is focusing on the implementation of Vision 2030.
The spokesperson also praised President Mnangagwa’s institutional memory, describing it as unmatched within ZANU PF and critical to the party’s continuity and strategic direction.
On elections, Mutsvangwa said ZANU PF had secured what he termed historic landslide victories in recent by-elections, including in constituencies traditionally held by the opposition. He attributed the wins to strong popular support for President Mnangagwa, which he described as a close alignment between the party leadership and the electorate.
He stressed that ZANU PF’s victories were achieved through the ballot, not violence, drawing a distinction between the post-independence era and the current political environment.
Mutsvangwa acknowledged what he described as efforts by individuals, including Blessed Geza, Nyokayemabhunu and journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, to destabilise the party, but said ZANU PF had remained united and resilient.
On foreign relations, he said President Mnangagwa enjoyed strong working relations with leaders in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), strengthening Zimbabwe’s regional diplomatic engagement.
Addressing economic issues, Mutsvangwa said Zimbabwe’s use of the United States dollar was not the result of external assistance, but was supported by the country’s gold sales on the international market, including in Dubai, which he said demonstrated economic sovereignty.
He also credited President Mnangagwa with stabilising the national currency following periods of severe depreciation, particularly during the 2008 economic crisis.
Mutsvangwa further said the steel industry was recording significant growth, attracting foreign investment and contributing to industrial development.
In agriculture, he claimed national grain reserves were full and that Zimbabwe was preparing to export grain to neighbouring countries, signalling improved food security.
He concluded by saying the tourism sector, especially Victoria Falls, had generated substantial revenue, contributing to overall economic growth.
The press conference presented ZANU PF as a unified and resilient party, which it says has recorded progress in governance, elections, regional diplomacy and key economic sectors under President Mnangagwa’s leadership.
