The Young Women of Africa (YWOA) Zimbabwe emerged victorious in a high-stakes netball tournament held Saturday at Lewisam Primary School in Harare Province, during an event organized as part of a broader Anti-Drug and Substance Abuse Campaign.
The campaign, spearheaded by ZANU PF Harare Provincial Youth League member Cde Tarusenga Mushininga, brought together youth groups, community leaders, and sports teams in a spirited initiative to promote healthy lifestyles and combat rising drug abuse among Zimbabwean youth.
YWOA Zimbabwe showcased exceptional athleticism and coordination, outperforming several competing teams from across Harare Province in a series of closely contested matches. Their final victory was met with cheers from a packed crowd, marking a proud moment for the organization.
“The win is a testament not only to the hard work and discipline of our team but also to the strength of young women united for a cause,” said a spokesperson for YWOA Zimbabwe. “This is about more than netball—it’s about standing up for our communities and inspiring positive change.”
The tournament served as a centerpiece of the day’s activities, which included drug awareness workshops, motivational talks, and community outreach efforts aimed at educating youth about the dangers of substance abuse.
Organizers hailed the event as a success, highlighting the role of sport as a unifying force and a platform for social advocacy.
Cde Mushininga praised YWOA’s victory and their broader efforts in youth empowerment. “Today’s event proves that our young people, especially young women, have the potential to lead the fight against drug abuse and become role models in their communities,” he said.
