Multiple people sustained serious injuries on Monday after a Toyota Sprinter traveling from Chitungwiza to Harare suffered a tyre blowout and veered off the road near Chinhamo Bridge, just a few kilometers from Manyame Bridge, where a separate accident claimed 17 lives last week.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle lost control when the front tyre burst, sending it off the roadway and into a roadside ditch. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly afterward and transported the injured passengers to Chitungwiza Hospital for medical attention.
This latest crash has sparked fresh concern over road safety along this busy highway, which has become notorious for frequent and often deadly accidents.
Authorities have since called on motorists to regularly inspect their vehicles and strictly adhere to speed regulations, particularly along high-traffic routes.
Police investigations into the accident are still ongoing, and further updates are expected.
