Scottland Secure First PSL Win with Last-Minute Own Goal

Scottland may not have had the ideal start they envisioned in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, but they managed to secure their first top-flight victory against Triangle United.

A last-minute own goal from Triangle United’s defense proved to be the decisive moment, handing Scottland a winning start.

Scottland struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, looking uncoordinated for large periods. Veteran midfielder Thabani Kamusoko was a constant threat, and his impressive display earned him a standing ovation from the crowd at halftime.

Despite having a squad filled with experienced players, Scottland found it difficult to settle in the early stages. Shortly after the break, Lynoth Chikuhwa missed a golden opportunity, firing wide after captain Walter Musona had capitalized on a defensive error.

Scottland coach Tonderai Ndiraya made tactical changes in the second half, introducing Panashe Mutimbanyoka, Sadney Urikhob, and Michael Tapera, who added an attacking spark. Their persistence paid off in stoppage time when Triangle conceded an own goal.

Reflecting on the game, Ndiraya admitted the performance was not up to expectations, considering the quality in his squad.

“I think this is a historic moment for us as a team—our first game in the league, and we start with a win. You can’t ask for much more. What matters is that we’ve taken off.

“It was a tough match, and we anticipated that. Despite having experienced players, football is a process,” he said.

Scottland will now prepare for their next challenge against Harare giants CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium.
