Scottland FC Denies Allegations of PSL Title Manipulation Over Simba Bhora Sponsorship

Scottland FC has moved to refute claims circulating on social media suggesting that the club’s president, Pedzai Sakupwanya, allegedly gave Simba Bhora FC US$100,000 “disguised as CAF Champions League sponsorship” in an attempt to influence the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title race.

In an official statement released on Monday, Scottland FC chairman Tonderai Sakupwanya dismissed the insinuations, describing them as “irresponsible” and lacking factual basis. The club emphasized that the funds in question are part of Simba Bhora’s existing sponsorship agreement with Betterbrands, which has been in place since the start of the season and supports their participation in the CAF Champions League.

“It is ironic that we actually played Simba Bhora on MatchDay 28 and were disappointed with the outcome, which kept us in second place. If we intended to manipulate the PSL title race, that match would have been the ideal opportunity to do so,” the statement read.

Scottland FC also stressed that the ongoing PSL title race currently involves up to four other teams, and the club remains committed to fair play. “We will fight for the league title on the field of play. At the same time, we wish Simba Bhora all the best in their CAF Champions League campaign as they fly the Zimbabwe flag,” the statement added.

The club’s response comes amid growing speculation on social media platforms regarding the integrity of league competitions in Zimbabwe, highlighting the scrutiny faced by top-flight football clubs and their leadership.
