Sally Mugabe Hospital Nurses Protest Over Dire Working Conditions

On Monday, 17 March, nurses at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare organized a protest to draw attention to the worsening conditions that have disrupted the hospital’s operations.

The healthcare workers expressed concerns over the absence of essential resources like electricity and running water, which they claim are hindering their ability to deliver adequate care to patients.

The protest, which started early in the morning, featured numerous nurses holding signs with messages such as “No Water, No Power, No Care!” and “Our Patients Deserve Better.”

Frustration grew among the nurses over the government’s failure to resolve ongoing challenges in the healthcare system, with many describing the situation as unsustainable.

One nurse, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals, shared:

“We are working in a hospital without electricity for hours and sometimes with no running water for days. How can we offer quality care in such conditions? We are not only fighting for ourselves but also for our patients, who are suffering the most.”

In Zimbabwe, public sector workers who participate in protests often face retaliation and harassment from authorities.
