Walter Magaya, the founder of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries, was taken into custody on Saturday on allegations of rape and fraud, according to police reports.
The 41-year-old preacher, who refers to himself as a prophet, was apprehended at his Harare church offices by detectives who arrived in several unmarked vehicles.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the development, stating: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested church leader Walter Magaya in connection with multiple cases involving rape and fraud. The arrest was carried out earlier today by a specialized police team.”
Magaya has faced accusations of sexual abuse for years from some women within his congregation, but law enforcement authorities had not previously taken action.
