The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have arrested a man suspected of murder, attempted murder and rape following a major manhunt in Guruve on Saturday.
In a statement, police confirmed the arrest of Anymore Zvitsva (32) earlier this afternoon after a joint operation involving the ZRP and the Zimbabwe National Army. The suspect was reportedly hiding in a garden when security forces moved in.
During the arrest, Zvitsva was shot in the leg and was immediately taken to a local hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment under guard.
Police commended the Guruve community and Zimbabweans at large for their cooperation and support during the intensive search for the suspect, which had prompted widespread concern.
Authorities said further details regarding the charges and Zvitsva’s court appearance would be released in due course.
The statement was issued by Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Chief Staff Officer for Press and Public Relations at Police General Headquarters, on behalf of the Commissioner-General of Police.
