Dynamos striker Vusa Ngwenya is reportedly dealing with emotional distress after being unexpectedly dropped from Zimbabwe’s 2025 COSAFA Cup squad. His replacement, Nathan Mutasa—who plays for Scottland FC and is the son of media personality Pokello Nare—was added to the roster without any official communication from the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
Ngwenya had been elated about his initial call-up, viewing it as a major step forward in his young career. However, that joy was short-lived. According to reports, ZIFA did not notify Ngwenya about his removal. He allegedly learned about his exclusion through teammates already preparing for the trip to the tournament.
Adding to the confusion, ZIFA did not make a public statement clarifying the squad change, leaving fans and analysts speculating about the decision and the timing.
A Dynamos teammate, speaking under the condition of anonymity, shared that Ngwenya is deeply hurt by the sudden change and the lack of transparency surrounding it.
“He was really looking forward to representing the country. It was a huge moment for him. What happened afterward came as a complete shock,” the player said.
ZIFA reportedly cited an injury as the reason for dropping Ngwenya. However, his teammate insists this isn’t true.
“He’s not injured. He’s been training and is in good shape. It’s clear he was dropped to accommodate someone else,” the teammate asserted.
In addition to the disappointment of being sidelined, Ngwenya has also been subjected to online criticism and scrutiny. According to the same source, the social media chatter surrounding the controversy has severely impacted the young player’s confidence.
“He’s really been affected. His name is being dragged into conversations online, and it’s messing with his head. He needs support right now more than anything to rebuild his confidence,” said the teammate.
