Mpilo Central Hospital, Zimbabwe’s second-largest referral health facility, is set to undergo a major refurbishment as part of a public-private partnership aimed at modernising healthcare infrastructure and improving service delivery.

The project will be spearheaded by Prevail Group International, which is preparing to commence a full-scale upgrade of the Bulawayo-based institution in the coming weeks. The move is part of broader government efforts to revitalise the country’s public health sector in line with Vision 2030.

Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Honourable Sleiman Kwidini, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a milestone in efforts to improve healthcare standards across Zimbabwe.

“Prevail is coming in to do the necessary work at the institution and upgrade it to a state-of-the-art facility,” said Minister Kwidini. “We welcome such a development in Bulawayo, especially considering the excellent work they have done at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. Government is committed to refurbishing hospitals and clinics nationwide.”

The massive project is set to employ hundreds of people from Bulawayo, Matabeleland South and North.

Prevail Group International Chairman Dr Paul Tungwarara said under the Second Republic Prevail is currently doing massive social projects

“We are doing this under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Prevail is doing the work to propel our health care system.

“Job creation and empowerment is our top priority and we are following the national vision 2030 set by His Excellency President Mnangagwa.

“Prevail is coming in to bolster a healthy nation by 2030 and we are on site to propel Bulawayos livelihood,” said Dr Tungwarara

The multi-phase upgrade is expected to significantly improve Mpilo Hospital’s capacity to deliver quality medical care, while also creating job opportunities and stimulating local business activity.

Mpilo Central Hospital serves as a vital referral centre for Bulawayo and several surrounding provinces. The planned revamp comes at a time when healthcare institutions across Zimbabwe are under pressure to modernise and cope with growing patient demands.
