President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), has promoted Brigadier General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi to the rank of Major General.
The official rank insignia were presented to Tapfumaneyi during a ceremony held at the ZDF Headquarters in Harare on Friday. Presiding over the event, ZDF Commander General Philip Valerio Sibanda congratulated the newly promoted officer and encouraged him to lead by example.
“We welcome you back to the ZDF, Major General Tapfumaneyi. Congratulations on your promotion. We look forward to your continued service,” said General Sibanda.
In his remarks, Major General Tapfumaneyi expressed appreciation to President Mnangagwa for the recognition, and extended his gratitude to the leadership and members of the ZDF for their confidence in him.
“I am honoured by this promotion and fully committed to supporting the President’s vision and the Commander’s strategic direction. I will remain dedicated to ensuring national security,” he said.
Tapfumaneyi brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in high-level government positions, including as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs and as Deputy Director General of the Central Intelligence Organisation.
