ISDP Decries Limited Funding for Local Development Initiatives

The Institute of Social Development Practices (ISDP) has raised concern over limited access to funding, which it says is hampering efforts by local organisations to drive home-grown solutions for Zimbabwe’s economic growth.

Despite the country’s wealth of skilled and innovative human capital, many entrepreneurial ventures have failed to take off due to a lack of financial support.

In an interview, ISDP founder Petronella Muungani said underfunding threatens the ability of organisations like hers to fully deliver on their mandate.

“The ISDP’s work aligns with government priorities on human capital development, focusing on cultivating graduates who are entrepreneurial, change-oriented, and able to utilize their qualifications productively. With adequate funding and partnerships, ISDP hopes to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people and contribute to the country’s development goals,” Muungani said.

The ISDP, which focuses on promoting social development through graduate skills training, has nonetheless made progress in advancing empowerment initiatives.

According to Muungani, the organisation has partnered with the Centre for Organisation Leadership Development, Fate Consultancy and GEM Consulting to co-facilitate the Ascend Leadership Development Program. The initiative is designed to strengthen graduates’ and professionals’ competencies in innovation, critical thinking, leadership, and problem-solving.

She appealed to potential partners and donors to support ISDP’s efforts.

“By pooling resources and expertise, ISDP aims to empower graduates with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in a rapidly changing job market,” Muungani said.
