Instinctive and alert police detectives have apprehended a sophisticated car thief, a foreign national, after he allegedly broke into a vehicle and stole USD 16,000 in cash.
National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrest, stating that investigations are still ongoing. Authorities have yet to release the full nationality of the suspect.
“On August 30, 2025, detectives in Harare arrested a foreign national, Lama Gabriel Gabi (40), in connection with a motor vehicle theft case,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
According to police, the suspect is accused of stealing USD 16,000 from a Toyota Hilux parked at Greenfield Shopping Centre in Harare on May 14, 2025.
During the arrest, detectives conducted a search and recovered a destabilizer remote control and three car keys, including one for a Honda Accent.
