Harare, Zimbabwe – The Ministry of Health has reported a significant increase in snake bites, with 2,190 cases recorded in March alone.
According to the latest disease surveillance report, the cumulative total now stands at 2,193 cases, resulting in nine deaths nationwide.
In a single reporting week, 167 new snake bite cases were documented, although no fatalities were recorded during this period.
The ministry has emphasized that snake bites remain a pressing public health concern.
Meanwhile, anthrax cases continue to rise, with two new confirmed cases in Gokwe North and Gokwe South.
This brings the year-to-date total to 49 cases without any reported deaths.
Dog bites remain the most prevalent animal-related health issue, with 646 cases reported in one week.
The Midlands Province recorded the highest number of cases (102), followed by Mashonaland Central (86).
The cumulative total for dog bites now stands at 9,218 cases without fatalities.
Authorities are urging the public to seek immediate medical attention after animal bites and to ensure proper vaccination of domestic pets.
