Chinese National Nabbed in US$350K Rhino Horn Smuggling Attempt
A Harare woman has accused her ex-husband of repeatedly engaging in relationships with their domestic workers, leading to the breakdown of their marriage.
Martha Kanyera sought a protection order from the Harare Civil Court, stating that her former husband, Daniel Kanyera, not only had affairs with their maids but also physically assaulted her whenever she confronted him. Magistrate Meenal Naratom granted the order.
“Daniel has no shame. He repeatedly had affairs with our maids in our own home, which ultimately led to our divorce,” Martha told the court.
She further lamented that his actions had tarnished her reputation, making it difficult to find domestic workers willing to work for her.
Martha recalled an incident from the previous year when her daughter clashed with their maid after Daniel showered the maid with gifts and airtime while neglecting to pay the child’s school fees.
She also alleged that after hiring a new maid, Daniel visited her home specifically to request the worker’s phone number, prompting the maid to resign.
“All I want is for him to stay away from my maids. If he wants to check on the children, he should come directly to me, not through my employees. I need my privacy and peace,” she said.
In response, Daniel denied the accusations but admitted to requesting the new maid’s number.
“I only asked for her contact so I could check on my children and ensure someone accompanies them when they visit me. My last-born is my favorite, and I love him dearly—I can’t stay away from him. If this court order is granted, it will prevent me from visiting my children, whom I work hard for,” he argued.
Despite his defense, the court ruled in favor of Martha’s request, issuing a protection order against him.
