Presidential Advisor on Investments, Dr Paul Tungwarara, continues to gain significant political traction, with growing recognition of his role in driving grassroots empowerment initiatives across Zimbabwe under the Presidential Empowerment Fund.
Widely viewed as a committed and dependable cadre, Dr Tungwarara has consistently aligned his work with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of inclusive economic development. His loyalty to both the party and the President was particularly evident during the period of the Geza attacks, when he stood firmly by the Head of State despite sustained criticism and pressure from hostile elements.
In a major political development, the ZANU PF Manicaland Provincial Coordinating Committee has formally endorsed Dr Tungwarara for co-option into the party’s Central Committee, a move that underscores his rising influence within the province.
The endorsement originates from the Chipinge District Coordinating Committee, which unanimously resolved to nominate Dr Tungwarara to fill the vacancy created after Cde Dorothy Mabika stepped down from the main wing earlier this year. Cde Mabika, a Chipinge native, later assumed the role of Provincial Women’s League Chairlady.
An earlier recommendation made last week was subsequently reviewed following guidance from the National Commissariat Department, which flagged possible procedural gaps. In a circular signed by National Commissar Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, and drawing from a Legal Affairs Department directive dated June 30, 2025, it was clarified that any replacement to the Central Committee must come from the same administrative district as the outgoing member — a requirement that firmly placed Chipinge at the centre of the process.
ZANU PF Manicaland Chairman, Cde Tawanda Mukodza, confirmed that the Chipinge DCC reconvened swiftly in response to the directive and reaffirmed its position in support of Dr Tungwarara. The resolution was later adopted by the PCC, reflecting provincial consensus.
“We initially made a recommendation, but after receiving communication from the National Commissar nullifying that process, Chipinge moved quickly to regularise the matter in line with party procedures,” said Cde Mukodza.
Central Committee members from Chipinge who attended the PCC meeting reiterated that the nomination was legitimate and accurately reflected the collective will of the district. They appealed to the party’s top leadership to honour the recommendation.
Cde Winnie Mlambo spoke strongly in favour of the nomination, describing Dr Tungwarara as a true son of Chipinge.
“He belongs to this district, and we are united in our position. We fully support his co-option as our representative,” she said.
Additional endorsements followed from across the province, with several party leaders seconding the motion. Central Committee member Cde Esau Mupfumi described Dr Tungwarara as the most suitable candidate, citing his capacity to make meaningful contributions to both Manicaland and the party at large.
“Chipinge has spoken, and Manicaland has embraced that position. There is unity and confidence in this decision,” said Cde Mupfumi.
Across all party wings, confidence was expressed in Dr Tungwarara’s candidature, with members highlighting the strategic value he brings to the revolutionary party, particularly in advancing empowerment-driven development within the province.
