A total of 178 young people from Mabvuku-Tafara and Chizhanje constituencies graduated this week from vocational training programmes sponsored by the Pedzai Sakupwanya Skills Development Trust, an initiative aimed at equipping youths with practical, income-generating skills.
The graduation ceremony, held at the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Church in Mabvuku, marked a significant milestone in the community’s drive to tackle youth unemployment and social challenges through skills development.
The graduates completed training in a variety of fields including Diesel Plant Fitting (12), Beauty Therapy (20), Hotel and Catering (18), Electrical Installation (12), Early Childhood Development (15), Information Technology (15), and Nurse Aide Training (18). Other areas covered were Cutting and Design (5), Plumbing (8), Building (10), Security Systems (15), and Solar Installation (10).

Speaking at the event, Member of Parliament for Mabvuku-Tafara, Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya, said the programme was aligned with the government’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which prioritizes youth empowerment and vocational skills as a foundation for achieving Vision 2030.
“This initiative is part of a broader commitment to support the Government’s NDS1 agenda, which sees skills development as a vital pathway to economic transformation,” Sakupwanya said. “By providing vocational and technical training, we aim to reduce unemployment, combat drug and substance abuse, and foster job creation within our communities.”
Sakupwanya added that the Trust is committed to scaling up the initiative by partnering with private sector players and government institutions to ensure long-term sustainability and wider reach.
The Skills Development Trust is expected to continue offering training programmes to empower more young people in future cohorts, as part of its mission to build resilient, self-sufficient communities.
