I. Overview

To strengthen its position in global engineering education and attract top international talent, Zhejiang University (ZJU) is offering a range of English-medium undergraduate engineering programs based at its International Campus in Haining. These programs draw on the university’s academic strengths and internationalization efforts.

Available Programs

1. ZJU-UIUC Institute

   • Majors: Electrical Engineering & Automation, Electronic and Computer Engineering

   • Duration: Entire 4 years at International Campus, Haining

2. College of Electrical Engineering

   • Major: Electrical Engineering & Automation

3. College of Information Science and Electronic Engineering

   • Majors: Electronic Science & Technology, Information Engineering

4. College of Control Science and Engineering

   • Major: Automation

5. College of Optical Science and Engineering

   • Major: Optical Information Science & Engineering

Note:

• Students enrolled in programs under Colleges 2–5 will spend three years in Haining and complete their final year at the Yuquan Campus in Hangzhou.

• Students may switch between the listed engineering programs but cannot transfer to other majors at ZJU.

• Upon completion, students will receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Zhejiang University.

Location Insight:
Haining is located in Zhejiang Province, approximately 125 km from Shanghai and 61.5 km from Hangzhou. The city is situated along the Qiantang River and is a part of the Yangtze River Delta.

II. Application Period

• Open now through February 28, 2025

• For some majors, the final deadline is May 31 (check program-specific details)

All applicants must submit their documents and pay the application fee via the ZJU International Student Application Portal.

III. Fees and Scholarships

• Application Fee: RMB 800 (non-refundable)

• Accommodation Fees:

  • Haining Campus: RMB 8,000/year

  • Yuquan Campus: Refer to the International College Life Guide

Payment Options:
Preferably pay online via the ZJU application system. If not possible, pay via bank transfer and upload the receipt to the system.

IV. Eligibility Criteria

1. General Requirements

• Non-Chinese citizens in good health

• High school graduates under age 25

• Final diploma must be submitted by registration if not available at the time of application

2. Citizenship Guidelines

Applicants must follow China’s Ministry of Education (Document No. 12, 2020) rules regarding nationality, especially for:

• Individuals who renounced Chinese citizenship

• Applicants born abroad to Chinese parents
  (Proof of foreign residency and citizenship acquisition is required)

Note: Applicants found to hold Chinese citizenship will be disqualified or expelled.

3. English Proficiency

No Chinese language requirement.
Non-native English speakers must provide standardized English test scores (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS).

V. Required Application Documents

All documents must be submitted online and in English or Chinese (with notarized translations if necessary):

1. Passport ID page

2. High school diploma or pre-graduation certificate

3. Full academic transcripts

4. English proficiency test scores

5. Personal statement

6. Two recommendation letters from high school teachers

7. Academic awards (if any)

8. Nationality-related documents (if applicable)

9. Guardian Guarantee Letter (for applicants under 18)

VI. Selection & Admission Process

1. Initial document screening

2. Qualified candidates will be invited for a video interview by the academic school

3. Admission is based on academic performance, language skills, and interview results

4. Those who receive a Pre-Admission Notice must prepay their tuition to secure their place

5. Final Admission Notices will be available by late June

   • Visa documents will be sent to the permanent email address listed in your application

Refund Policy:

• Tuition is non-refundable if the applicant withdraws or fails to meet final admission/registration conditions.

VII. Enrollment

• Classes begin in late August or early September

• Students must arrive and register on the date listed in their admission notice

• Original documents (diploma, test scores) will be verified at registration

VIII. Health Insurance

• Cost: RMB 800/year

• All international students must purchase comprehensive medical insurance in China

• Without proof of insurance, registration will not be permitted
