Mufakose Man Killed Over US$0.50 in Touting Dispute

A 33-year-old commuter omnibus tout from Mufakose, Harare, was killed on Thursday night after being stoned during an argument over ZiG20 (approximately US$0.50).

Mike Sallimon was allegedly attacked by Bison Manyade following a dispute over their earnings from touting near the Lyton flyover.

According to Christina Paulos, a relative of the deceased, Manyade became enraged after receiving US$4 instead of US$4.50, which had been handed to Sallimon.

“He started throwing stones at Mike and the person who paid them, insisting he deserved the full US$4.50. Mike has left behind two children, and we are devastated,” Paulos said.

Harare Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Lovemore Chakanza confirmed that authorities are investigating the incident.

This marks the second violent death in Mufakose in recent days, following an incident where a man fatally stabbed his mother 19 times over a minor dispute.

In response to rising crime and suspected drug-related violence in the area, residents have planned a protest on February 2.
