Masvingo-Beitbridge Crash Death Toll Rises to 28
The death toll from the tragic road accident along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on February 13 has now reached 28.
In a statement shared on its official X page, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the latest update, noting that two of the victims, a man and a woman, remain unidentified.
The fatal crash occurred near Lutumba Toll Gate at the 262-kilometre mark when an Urban Connect bus, carrying 65 passengers, collided head-on with an Auro Transport haulage truck with four occupants. The accident happened around 8 AM as the bus attempted to overtake another vehicle while traveling from Harare to Beitbridge.
Following the incident, Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Felix Mhona suspended Urban Connect Holdings Pvt Ltd from operating its omnibuses on all routes for six months. He cited non-compliance with road traffic and safety regulations as the reason for the temporary ban.
