Kwekwe Man Arrested for Killing Wife by Poisoning Her During Argument

Kwekwe, Zimbabwe — A 29-year-old man from Qagani village in Kwekwe has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly forcing his wife to consume poison during a domestic altercation, leading to her death months later.

Norest Mdlovu appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court, where he was formally charged in connection with the tragic incident that occurred on May 17, 2024. The court heard that a domestic argument escalated violently when Mdlovu allegedly overpowered his wife and forced her to swallow a toxic substance.

Court records revealed that immediately after ingesting the poison, the victim began experiencing severe symptoms, including foaming at the mouth and intense abdominal pain. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, and the victim was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

Despite initial medical attention and a brief discharge, the woman’s health continued to decline over the next several months. She required repeated hospitalizations due to complications from the poisoning, and her condition worsened progressively. The victim tragically passed away on March 4, 2025, with the cause of death confirmed as poisoning.

Mdlovu was remanded in custody following his court appearance and will remain in detention until his next hearing on April 17, 2025. Due to the gravity of the charges, he is required to apply for bail through the High Court.

The case has sparked widespread concern about the rise of domestic violence in the region, drawing attention to the urgent need for improved conflict resolution mechanisms and support systems for those affected by abuse.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the extreme consequences of domestic violence and the critical importance of addressing such issues within communities.
