Here’s Why Knowledge Musona Turned Down Foreign Offers for Scottland FC

Warriors forward Knowledge Musona has shared that his decision to join Scottland FC was driven by a desire to conclude his football career closer to home.

The veteran striker was officially unveiled by Scottland FC at Rufaro Stadium on Monday and is set to make his debut against FC Platinum this Saturday at Mandava Stadium.

Musona joins the club as a free agent after parting ways with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ohkhood. Despite attracting interest from several teams—including a potential reunion with former club Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa—the Norton-born player opted to sign with the local outfit.

Musona began his professional career in South Africa in 2009 before making moves to Europe, where he featured for clubs like Bundesliga’s Hoffenheim and Belgian side RSC Anderlecht.

Explaining his decision to return, the player known as the “Smiling Assassin” said, “After spending 17 years playing abroad, I felt it was the right time to come back home. I’ve never played in Zimbabwe, so it’s something new and special for me at this stage of my career.”

Another motivation behind his move was the opportunity to play alongside his younger brother, Walter Musona, for the first time at club level.

“I’ve always wanted to share the pitch with him. We played together for the national team, which was a proud moment, and now I get the chance to support his growth and help him reach greater heights,” Musona added.

Having recently come out of retirement to feature for the national team in preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Musona’s return to local football marks a significant moment for Zimbabwean fans.
