Harare Woman Sues Husband Over Chilli Abuse in Intimate Sessions

A Harare woman, Joyce Garikayi, has taken her husband, Jack Mukandwe, to court, accusing him of physically and emotionally abusing her during their intimate moments.

Joyce claims that Jack has been using chilli during their sexual encounters, which has caused her severe health issues, including persistent itching and discomfort in her private areas.

During the court hearing at the Harare Civil Court, Joyce explained how the practice, which Jack allegedly picked up from friends, has put her health at risk. She also revealed that Jack would insult her whenever she denied him sex, accusing her of infidelity.

Shocking details of abuse followed, as Joyce testified that Jack had physically assaulted her, calling her derogatory names in front of their children and using an electricity cable when angry.

She also reported that he had been harassing her even after she moved back to her parents’ house.

Jack admitted to using chilli in their sexual encounters but claimed it was an experiment suggested by friends. He apologized for his violent actions and blamed his temper, suggesting they could work on their marriage.

However, Joyce sought a protection order, which was granted by Magistrate Meenal Naratom, acknowledging the risk to her safety and well-being.
