Five Arrested for Robbery in Orange Grove After Coordinated Police Operation

A joint effort by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), the South African Police Service (SAPS), and private security led to the arrest of five suspects involved in a robbery in Orange Grove.

The incident unfolded around 6:45 AM when a distressed man approached officers at a BP gas station on Louis Botha Avenue. He reported that five individuals in a red Volkswagen Jetta had robbed him at the intersection of 7th Street and Louis Botha Avenue, taking his money and mobile phones. The suspects had also transferred funds from his bank account to their own.

Acting quickly, law enforcement accompanied the victim to help locate the suspects. With the aid of JMPD’s CCTV surveillance, Tactical Response Units (TRU), and private security teams, the vehicle was tracked to a parking lot near Pick ‘n Pay in Bramley View.

Officers moved in and apprehended the suspects inside the shopping mall. Upon searching them, police recovered all stolen items.

The suspects were taken into custody at Norwood SAPS, where they now face charges of robbery and possession of stolen property. They are expected to appear in court soon.
