Exclusive Projects Director Takudzwa Munyawarara Jailed for US$48k Fraud

Director of Exclusive Projects Private Limited Takudzwa Munyawarara was convicted last week and sentenced by Harare magistrate Munashe Chibanda for duping Garwe restaurant owner US$48 000 that was meant to purchase mobile toilets in China.

The complainant is Mandy Mvukwe .

In her ruling magistrate Chibanda initially slapped Munywarara with 18 months jail term then 6 months were suspended for good behavior another 6 months suspended on condition that he restitutes the money by April 15 hence he will serve 6 months effective.

Munyawarara pleaded not guilty during full trial.

The court heard that in May last year, Mvukwe decided to venture into business of providing mobile toilets for hire at various functions.

She engaged Munyawarara who claimed to have capacity to import mobile toilets from China on her behalf.

He allegedly ndicated that he would supply the mobile toilets at US$300 each.

She agreed with Munyawarara to facilitate and import from China to Zimbabwe a total of 160 mobile toilets at a cost price of US$300 including duty, transport for the mobile toilets at a total purchase price of US$48 000.

On June 25, Munyawarara collected the money from Mvukwe’s house in the presence of Prisca Chatyoka for the sole purpose of purchasing 160 mobile toilets and delivering them to her.

Munyawarara allegedly romised to supply the mobile toilets by the end of July 2023.

Mvukwe made a follow up, at the end of July but Munyawarara gave excuses till he became evasive and nothing was recovered.

In his defence, Munyawarara denied ever defrauding Mvukwe denying that he never misrepresented to her that he had capacity to source for and supply to her mobile toilets from China in the manner alleged or at all.

He told the court that the allegations are a product of her imagination designed to conceal the illegal transaction.
