Chiwenga Backers Hit Back at Mutsvangwa Over Leaked Audio

Supporters of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga have come to his defense following the release of an explosive audio recording in which Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa dismissed any possibility of Chiwenga succeeding President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mutsvangwa, who delivered a scathing critique of Chiwenga’s leadership potential, is now facing accusations of working as a spy for foreign entities allegedly hostile to Zimbabwe.

His remarks have further highlighted the deepening factional divisions within the ruling party, despite senior officials publicly downplaying any internal rifts.

A group calling itself the General Chiwenga Voluntary Supporters Association (GCVSA) has vowed to “expose and dismantle” Mutsvangwa, whom they accuse of being a double agent.

The organization claims military intelligence has already identified his alleged covert activities.

“We are aware of a recent intelligence report linking Mutsvangwa to espionage activities involving hostile foreign powers,” read a statement signed by GCVSA Secretary-General Ntokozo Msipha.

“This confirms what many have suspected—Mutsvangwa is not just outspoken, but an active saboteur working to weaken Zimbabwe from within.

His attacks on General Chiwenga are not personal; they are part of a larger plot designed to sideline true patriots and install puppets in key positions of power.”

The statement further alleges that Mutsvangwa’s mission includes undermining the military, discrediting national heroes, and misleading the public to ensure the smooth execution of the 2030 succession plan.

An audio recording, published last week by UK-based investigative outlet Dug Up, captured Mutsvangwa describing Chiwenga as unelectable, ruthless, and lacking in education.

He also referenced the plight of Chiwenga’s ex-wife, Marry, as a reason why the Vice President should never ascend to higher office—an argument that aligns with Mnangagwa’s 2030 political strategy.

While some within Zanu PF are reportedly pushing for Mnangagwa to extend his rule beyond 2028, the internal battle lines are now becoming clearer.

Ironically, Mutsvangwa was a key figure in the 2017 coup that ousted Robert Mugabe and brought both Mnangagwa and Chiwenga to power.

In their fiery response, the GCVSA dismissed Mutsvangwa as an opportunist rather than a kingmaker, warning that Zimbabwe would not be destabilized by what they termed “political mercenaries and traitors.”
