Dynamos FC Suspends Head Coach Genesis Mangombe and Technical Team Amid Allegations

Harare, Zimbabwe – Dynamos Football Club has announced the suspension of head coach Genesis Mangombe and his entire technical team, pending an investigation into multiple allegations of misconduct. The accusations include suspected match-fixing, alleged enforcement of ritual practices, and gross insubordination.

In an official statement, Dynamos confirmed that an active investigation is underway into potential match-fixing activities, citing a series of controversial results this season. Matches under scrutiny reportedly include a 5-0 defeat to Scottland in the Castle Lager Challenge Cup on March 1, a 1-0 loss to rivals Highlanders in the Charity Shield, a 2-2 league draw against Hunters, and a 2-1 Harare derby defeat to Caps United.

Among the allegations, the reported mandatory use of traditional rituals has emerged as a significant point of contention within the squad. Mangombe, appointed at the start of the current campaign, is alleged to have alienated several players by insisting on spiritual practices that reportedly conflicted with their personal beliefs.

Cameroonian goalkeeper Idrissou Nfor is understood to be a key figure in bringing these concerns to light. The official suspension letter indicates that similar grievances were raised by Ghanaian import Christopher Nettey, Malawian midfielder Stanley Billiat, and other senior team members.

According to the club’s executive in the suspension letter, “It is alleged that if a player refused to bath in juju as per your directive, they would not be allowed to play on matchday. This goes against club policy and individual players’ employment contracts. Some players are now demoralized as they do not hold or share your traditional belief systems.”

The internal dispute escalated on June 18 during a post-training technical meeting called by the executive to address player complaints. Mangombe is alleged to have walked out of this meeting, showing disregard for his superiors.

The club detailed charges of insubordination, stating in the letter:

“You allegedly disrespected members of the Dynamos executive committee who were talking to you during a post training technical meeting by challenging them, showing disregard of their authority. You also told them that you no longer wanted to continue as the Dynamos FC head coach and walked away leaving the members and other attendees in shock.”

Furthermore, the club claims that Mangombe routinely failed to adhere to administrative protocols, specifically by not submitting mandatory post-match reports to the chief executive officer. Out of 20 matches played this season, the head coach reportedly provided documentation for only three.

Another incident contributing to the club’s concerns occurred during the recent Sunday fixture against Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium, which concluded in a 1-1 draw. Mangombe is accused of violating Castle Lager Premier Soccer League regulations by allegedly instructing his players to warm up across the entire pitch, encroaching into the Highlanders’ half, despite explicit directives from both the league and the club’s chief security officer.

As a result of these ongoing investigations, Mangombe has been relieved of all coaching duties and responsibilities with immediate effect. He has been barred from attending club training sessions as the team prepares for its upcoming fixture against Bulawayo Chiefs this weekend.

Mangombe was unavailable for comment, as the terms of his suspension reportedly prohibit him from issuing press statements or granting interviews regarding the matter.

With the club’s leadership acting swiftly, the draw at Barbourfields appears to have been Mangombe’s final match in charge. Club sources have indicated that Dynamos has initiated a search for a successor, with reports suggesting a Romanian tactician is being considered for the role. An official announcement regarding the new appointment is anticipated in the near future.
