A heartbreaking incident in Norton claimed the lives of two children after a Blair toilet collapsed while they were inside. The tragedy occurred on Friday at House Number 8562 in the Marshlands area.
Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, confirmed the incident, stating that the victims were aged 7, 4, and 3.
“The three children were inside when the structure suddenly gave way, trapping them beneath the rubble,” said Insp Kohwera.
Their cries for help alerted nearby adults, who rushed to rescue them. They were immediately taken to a local clinic, but sadly, two of them were pronounced dead upon arrival.
The seven-year-old, who initially survived the collapse, was transferred to Norton Hospital but succumbed to injuries later in the afternoon.
Describing the event as a tragic accident, Kohwera urged parents to ensure proper construction of pit latrines, emphasizing the importance of building on solid ground to prevent such disasters.
