Cholera Outbreak Strikes Mashonaland Central Province with 340 Reported Cases
A cholera outbreak has resurfaced in Mashonaland Central Province, with 340 reported cases across six of the province’s eight districts.
The outbreak’s recurrence has raised alarms, particularly due to the presence of illegal miners along the Mazowe River, whose activities are believed to be polluting the water source, putting thousands of residents at risk.
Health and Child Care Minister Dr. Douglas Mombeshora, along with Ministry officials, visited Matope Clinic in Mt Darwin, where three cholera cases are being treated in the dedicated treatment center. The visit’s objective is to assess the ongoing situation and implement measures to curb the spread of the disease.
So far, 68 cholera cases have been confirmed, with eight fatalities recorded, yielding a 2.4% case fatality rate.
