War Veteran Blessed Geza Halts Protests, Cites Terrorism Framing Scheme

War veteran and outspoken government critic Blessed Geza has unexpectedly canceled planned protests intended to oust President Emmerson Mnangagwa, citing an alleged plot by state agents to frame him for terrorism.

On March 31, Geza revealed he had received intelligence indicating that Major Sean Mnangagwa, reportedly a relative of the president, was preparing to plant bombs at key locations and then blame him for the attacks. In response, Geza decided to call off the protests, stating, “I’ve decided to call off the protests… on hearing from intelligence sources that Major Sean Mnangagwa is planning to plant bombs in certain targets and designate me as a terrorist.”

This announcement came just hours after Geza had publicly vowed to remove Mnangagwa from power within the week, raising questions about whether his reversal was driven by security concerns or internal pressures within the ruling party.

His decision highlights the growing rifts within ZANU PF, where factions loyal to Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga are engaged in ongoing conflicts.

Reports suggest that Mnangagwa may be planning to replace Chiwenga with Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a wealthy businessman with strong ties to the ruling elite. Tagwirei, whose influence spans across fuel, mining, and agriculture, is said to be positioning himself for a future leadership role, with some speculating that he could be eyeing the presidency.

Geza and other sources have also pointed to rising corruption within Mnangagwa’s inner circle, implicating figures such as Tagwirei, entrepreneur Wicknell Chivhayo, and gold dealer Scott Sakupwanya. These individuals are alleged to have used their financial power and political connections to gain lucrative state deals.

Geza’s sudden withdrawal from the protests has generated mixed reactions. While some supporters believe his claims of a state-sponsored plot, others suspect he may have faced pressure from military or party elites. As tensions within ZANU PF escalate, one observer remarked, “The divisions within ZANU PF are growing, and while calling off the protests does not end the dissent, it underscores that pressure on Mnangagwa is building.”

With the political climate in Zimbabwe becoming more unstable, it remains uncertain whether Mnangagwa will succeed in consolidating his power or if his rivals within ZANU PF will regroup to challenge him again. For now, Geza’s withdrawal serves as a reminder of the intense internal struggles within the party and the broader political landscape.

Geza’s warning of a potential state-driven campaign to silence opposition could stoke further distrust in Mnangagwa’s government, leaving the nation to question whether this moment of tension will lead to real change or simply another round of factional infighting.
