A Delta Air Lines flight experienced a serious incident at Toronto Pearson Airport when the aircraft flipped over while landing. Fortunately, all passengers and crew members onboard survived, with only minor injuries reported.
The plane involved was Delta Flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air, coming from Minneapolis. The incident occurred at approximately 2:15 PM ET on Monday, when the aircraft lost control upon landing on a snow-covered tarmac. Emergency teams quickly arrived to assist, and images from the scene show the aircraft on its roof, with at least one wing missing.
Emergency services promptly arrived, helping passengers evacuate the overturned plane. 18 individuals were taken to the hospital, including a child, a man in his 60s, and a woman in her 40s, all of whom sustained serious injuries.
Ornge, Ontario’s air ambulance service, responded by deploying both helicopters and ambulances to the site. Deborah Flint, CEO of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, praised the response, calling it a textbook operation.
Operations at Toronto Pearson Airport were briefly suspended following the incident, with flights resuming around 5:00 PM. However, two runways remain closed as investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) assess the situation, and passengers have been advised to expect delays.
While early reports speculated that high wind gusts contributed to the crash, Toronto Pearson’s fire chief clarified that conditions on the runway were dry, and there was no significant crosswind. The weather at the time featured light snowfall, adding to travel disruptions caused by earlier storms that dumped up to 50 cm (19.6 inches) of snow in the region.
Social media videos show passengers evacuating the overturned aircraft with the help of airport staff. One passenger filming from the scene remarked, “We just landed in Toronto. Our plane crashed—it’s upside down. Most people seem okay, and we are being evacuated.”
Both Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed support for those affected by the incident. They praised first responders and offered assistance in managing the situation.
Following the crash, multiple flights were delayed or canceled, leaving many passengers stranded. Among them were James and Andrea Turner, who were waiting for their flight at customs. They were affected by the delays, as their originally booked flight was among those involved in the incident.
