Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly parted ways with head coach Nasreddine Nabi following a dramatic standoff over his eligibility to sit on the bench during Confederation Cup fixtures.
Sources at Naturena confirmed that Nabi was suspended on Tuesday morning shortly after arriving for training. Club officials reportedly told him he could not continue in his role as he allegedly lacked a valid CAF coaching license.
The Tunisian coach, however, strongly disputed the claim. He immediately produced documentation showing his license had been renewed earlier in the day. Nabi further questioned the credibility of the club’s stance, pointing to his recent experience in continental football.
“If I didn’t have a CAF license, how did I coach Yanga to the Confederation Cup final? How did I sit on the bench against AS FAR in the Champions League?” he asked, describing the situation as sabotage.
Despite his insistence, Chiefs management stood by their position, saying they would investigate the authenticity of the renewal. The breakdown in trust prompted both parties to agree on a mutual termination of his contract.
Nabi, who joined Chiefs amid high expectations, is now consulting his lawyers before leaving South Africa. The club has since announced that his assistants will take charge for the remainder of the season.
The latest development adds to Chiefs’ ongoing struggles, with fans expressing frustration over instability within the technical bench.
